A good physical examination should be performed systematically when evaluating an injured athlete. Clinicians should begin the examination of an injured athlete with a thorough history and visual inspection of the area. Research has examined hundreds of special tests for the shoulder, elbow, and knee. This course details a number of special tests that have been proven to be most reliable and accurate for each joint. A consistent routine for injury evaluation is critical for diagnosing and subsequently treating an injured athlete.

ii. Define the statistical validity and accuracy of shoulder, elbow, and knee examination tests including combinations
iii. Recall an efficient shoulder, elbow, knee physical examination algorithm
TAKING THIS COURSE
This course consists of 1 lesson and a final exam.
Lesson 1: Physical Exam of the Athletes Shoulder, Elbow, and Knee
The lessons consist of video and optional supplemental materials. For the final exam, participants can take a maximum of 3 attempts to achieve a passing score of 80% or higher. Participants who achieve a passing score can print out a course certificate of completion. Participants who do not pass the final exam after 3 attempts will need to re-pay for and repeat the entire course to attempt to earn credit.

About the Instructor
Steve E. Jordan, MD, Orthopaedic Surgeon
Steve E. Jordan, MD is an Orthopeadic Sports Medicine Physician, at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, FL. Prior to joining the Institute in 2015, he was in private practice in Tallahassee, FL, where he served as a team physician for Florida State University Football and Baseball for 25 years. He received his medical degree from Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine in Charleston, SC, and then completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. After residency, he served in the US Navy as chairman of Sports Medicine at the Naval Education and Training Center in Newport, RI.
Between his Naval service and private practice, Dr. Jordan trained under Dr. Frank Jobe at the Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, completing a Fellowship in Sports Medicine.
He now enjoys treating athletes of all ages with shoulder, elbow, and knee injuries, as well as teaching and participating in clinical outcomes research with the Andrews Research & Education Foundation.
