1.00 BOC Approved Clinical Home Study EBP CEUs
COST: $ 29.99 - EXPIRATION DATE: 2020-12-31
Female athletes with menstrual dysfunction (MD) are at risk for decreased energy availability, which has been related to a host of physiological consequences including diminished bone health and increased rates of musculoskeletal injury. The interrelations between low energy availability, MD, and low bone mineral density (BMD) have been termed ‘The Female Athlete Triad (Triad), and athletes diagnosed with any one aspect of the Triad are at higher risk for experiencing the other two. Girls who are experiencing one or more element of the Triad are at relatively high risk for musculoskeletal injury, other components of the Triad, and/or further health consequences. Assessing for MD in adolescent female athletes can therefore help identify girls who need further assessment, treatment, and care. Early detection of risk factors associated with the Triad in adolescent females is critical to prevent manifestations of the Triad, including low BMD and increased risk of musculoskeletal injury
1. Be able to describe the prevalence of menstrual dysfunction.
2. Be able to explain how menstrual dysfunction leads to increased injury risk and prolonged recovery.
3. Evaluate females for menstrual dysfunction and make recommendations for farther assessment as appropriate.
