Fibromyalgia (FM) is a syndrome that is primarily characterized by a widespread body pain for which no alternative cause can be identified. This debilitating condition has physical, emotional and financial impacts on the individual and society. The purpose of this course is to provide strength and conditioning coaches, personal trainers, and other exercise professionals with a better understanding of the complex chronic pain syndrome of Fibromyalgia. Familiarity with this complex pain syndrome and the supporting research will provide a framework for individualized, integrated exercise guidelines to best support the client with Fibromyalgia.
NOTE: This course has been approved for .3 CEU with NSCA, .2 CEU with NASM, and 2.0 CEU with AFAA. Successful completion of this course will generate completion certificates for all 3 certifying agencies. Athletic Trainers can access the BOC-approved course HERE.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the signs and symptoms of Fibromyalgia
2. Recognize the personal and societal impact of Fibromyalgia
3. Describe theories of Fibromyalgia pathophysiology
4. Summarize relevant research in consideration of Fibromyalgia
5. Describe the integrated exercise guidelines to best support the athlete or client with Fibromyalgia
Taking This Course
This course consists of 3 lessons and 1 final exam
Lesson 1: Fibromyalgia Overview & Pathophysiology
Lesson 2: Classification of Fibromyalgia
Lesson 3: Research Summary & Integrated Exercise Guidelines
The lessons consist of video and optional supplemental materials. For the final exam, participants can take a maximum of 3 attempts to achieve a passing score of 80% or higher. Participants who achieve a passing score can print out a course certificate of completion. Participants who do not pass the final exam after 3 attempts will need to re-pay for and repeat the entire course to attempt to earn credit.

Molly's experience as an exercise specialist spans over 15 years, including teaching and coaching in clinical, fitness, and higher education settings. She has coordinated post-rehabilitative clinical exercise programs and enjoys presenting seminars for military family readiness groups, churches and senior events. Molly coordinates the education department and operations of Fusion Tactical & Athletic Development. Her interests lie in coaching female athletes, nutrition and healthy body image, as well the use of exercise to reduce chronic pain.

Troy has spent over two decades working with high school, collegiate, professional and military athletes as an athletic trainer and performance coach. His past eleven years have been spent serving the men and women of conventional and special operations forces through the development and supervision of human performance programs. Troy has developed and managed professional training facilities and directed training programs aimed at injury reduction and physical performance enhancement. His background includes teaching exercise science and athletic training courses at Washington State University, Oregon State University, Limestone College and the University of South Carolina.
