Psychological Skills Training Course is a Secondary (Middle and High School) Sports Psychology Course for all Middle School and High School Coaches, Administrators, Parents, and Athletes. The Psychological Skills Course contains the following information in regards to a wide range of sports psychology coaching techniques that apply to coaching Psychological Skills Training; Psychological Keys to Athlete Success; and Coaching Psychological Skills:
1. Understand why psychological skills training is critical for athlete success
2. Recognize the 4 phases of psychological skills training
3. Develop a psychological skills training program
4. How to recognize and understand differences and similarities in athletes we coach
5. Learn to facilitate peak athletic performance through psychological strategies
6. Understand how to build trust with players
7. Use the GROW model to ask effective questions
8. Differentiate between coaching to learn and coaching to perform
Taking This Course
This course consists of 3 lessons and a final exam. Each lesson consists of a video and/or other lesson materials and a stage exam. Stage exams must be passed prior to continuing to the next lesson or taking the course Final exam. Stage exams must be retaken as many times as required in order to pass with an 80%.
Students only have 2 attempts to pass the course final exam. After passing the final exam (with a score of 80% of higher) the student will be able to print out a certificate of completion. If a student fails to pass the final in 2 attempts, you will be required to re-pay for the course and go through the complete course again.
Secondary courses are designed for people working with children from 13-19 years old. To qualify for this, course make sure your age levels are either 13-15 years old or 14 to 19 years old and your Governing Body has to be either Middle School or High School.
Student Registration and ICEU Course Instructions
Students will first have to register as a student by filling out and submitting a completed Innovative CEUs, LLC (ICEU) student registration page .
On ICEU students Home Page student needs to click on credentials top took bar on right to add Credentials. To qualify for all of the ICEU High School Coaching Courses: Student Credentials must be listed as indicated below:
Age Level: Either 13-15 years old or 14-19 years old
Governing Body: Must be either Middle School or High School
Student Role: Any
After setting their student credentials all available ICEU High School Coaching Courses will be displayed on the students Home Page (Click on the Home Button).
Any of the ICEU High School Coaching Courses seen on students ICEU Home Page, can be added to their cart by clicking the Add to Cart button.
After selecting all ICEU High School Coaching Courses courses students want to purchase, they can check out of shopping cart and put in a COUPON Code if they have one prior to check out.
Course Completion Information:
A. 90 days to start course
B. Once course started, 5 days to complete course
After purchasing a course it will show on the Courses Not Started Page. (Top Navigation button - Courses Not Started).
To start any of these ICEU Coaching courses, just click on the Click to Start link next to the course you want to start. Once a course has been started it will be moved to the Courses in Process.
On the Courses in Process ICEU Students Page, the students will start and complete the lesson (view lesson video) and then complete the Lesson Stage Exam.
Completion of Course Final Exam. Then the course will be posted to the Completed Courses page.
Students need to complete end End of Course Survey on the Completed Course Page.
End of Course Survey will need to be completed by all students who successfully complete each ICEU High School Coaching Courses course final exam for them to generate their ICEU High School Coaching Certificates. (Certificates are always available for completed courses on Completed Course Page).

About the Instructor
Dan Gould, Ph.D.
Dan Gould is the Director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports and Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the Michigan State University. He focuses his efforts on achieving the Institute's mission of providing leadership, conducting research and helping design community engagement projects that maximize the beneficial effects of sports participation for children and youth while minimizing detrimental effects.
A sought after speaker, coaching educator and consultant in the area of applied sport psychology, Dan has published widely on topics such as mental preparation, coaching psychology, motivation, children in sport, stress and stress management and the development of life skills in young athletes. He has published over 200 articles in the field, co-written three books including, Foundations of sport and exercise psychology, the most widely used textbook in the world, and has been invited to speak on sport psychology topics in over 30 countries around the world.
Dan has also served as the Co-Chair of the Science & Technology Committee of the US Olympic Committee, was a member of the USOC Coaching and Development Committee and has worked extensively with a variety of national teams, Olympic and professional athletes. Dan was the Mental Training Consultant for the US Ski Team at the Nagano Olympic Games. He especially enjoys helping young athletes develop their mental games. Currently, Dan serves as a member of the US Tennis Association Sport Science and Medicine and US Figure Skating Sport Science and Medicine Committees and designed the National Wrestling Coaches Association Leadership Academy a leadership training program for collegiate coaches.
